As a sport basketball boasts the second-highest participation figures behind football in the UK but has failed to reach the same engagement and profile as its global counterparts. Where sporting success is often measured in ‘gold’ Basketball has been unable to win the funding needed to build sustainable pathways and the commercial side of the sport hasn’t been able to capitalise on it’s popularity.Myles has had to commit everything to carve out a career doing what he loves, a national star and role model for many. His gold-winning, last second basket in the Commonwealth Games was a heroic, against all odds moment but it can’t paint over the difficult path the sport is still on.
